English as a Second Language and Literacy Programs
Our ESL program excels through its low teacher-student ratio and wealth of immersion opportunities outside of class. Drop-in conversations, one-on-one and small group practice sessions occur daily. Courses ranging from everyday survival to job search skills, and strong partnerships with other local organizations, help students integrate into everyday life. Students are encouraged to take an active role in the community as citizens, parents, and workers. Students are introduced to varied cultures with emphasis on our own local culture, not only in the classroom, but also in informal settings, such as our potluck luncheons, Summer Visitors program acrylic and watercolor painting classes, field trips, and creating writing classes.
